Yes, getting there.
Think I’ll be replacing the fireplace surround for an oak one in the near future and also doing something with the units up higher to incorporate bass traps in the corners and something for first reflection points.

Are you trying to aim for a month to finish? Or is it a case of doing bits around work and family life free time...which is of course rare!

It’s difficult to get time, especially when it comes to cutting and installing the timbre as it has to be done during the day and also when the kids aren’t here, which is very rare.
I do hope to be finished by the end of the summer though, or it will end up being next spring/summer.

whenever there's a problem, around adventure bay, ryder and his team of pups, are there to save the day...

Little kids will seriously cut down on hobby time. I've been working on a speaker kit since about November.

You can apparently hear right down to 1hz if it’s loud enough. I’m not sure how loud 5hz needs to be or how loud I’m playing 5hz, but from previous measurements, having my living room door open(as always) acts like a huge bass port with its resonant frequency at about 7hz, so I get massive room gain there.
I’ve not done much measuring yet as it’s only a temporary setup, but playing lots of sub 10hz material up quite loud makes you feel nauseous. The whole room and your head become pressurised. It feels a bit like free falling on a rollercoaster experiencing g force.
It all sounds very civilised and not sub like when playing normal music, except now with 2 subs I’m getting much more of the feeling of pressure in the room.

Hey Matt, How are you? Your subs look mega. I saw that you mentioned that your subs will go down to 1hz. In fact any decent sized bass speaker will respond to a 1hz signal but it tends to sound like a thump...a heartbeat,if you like, rather than a tone. If you use a signal generator starting at 1Hz and start lifting the frequency slowly, you can find the point where the heartbeat or 'throb' starts to sound like a genuine low bass tone.
I've not been here for a while but I am still using my SCA2 and my SCM150ASLT special builds....
Cheers!
They say if you can remember the 60's, you weren't really there. Now somehow I have reached 63...oh shit, it's 64 now....How and when did THAT happen?....there's a lesson there somewhere if only I could figure it out...

Hi David,

Good to hear from you :)
I’ve had to re-sand part of one of the units and I’m in the process of applying coats of primer again to try and conceal a line in the ply that was still visible through 2 coats of the finished colour. If this doesn’t work I’ll have to sand further and use filler on top as that will definitely work.

When I was referring to 1hz I just meant I’d read that we can apparently hear 1hz if it’s loud enough. I usually just run sweeps from 5hz upwards when measuring. There’s not much material with stuff around 5hz, but it’s interesting testing and seeing the effect even an open window upstairs has on the very low bass response.

Glad to hear your still enjoying your Big ATC’s, have you done anything further with the system or speakers?

Cheers
Matt
