I think ive decided on sub driver and amp :D

The Fi Q15 sub http://www.bladeice.com/index.php/produ ... o/q-series

And a Behringer iNuke DSP amp. Either the NU300DSP, or NU6000DSP. If i go for the 6000, it will power a stereo pair of subs.
The DSP versions of the iNuke have built in crossover and EQ.

Edit:
Just found these Peavey amps, so these are a possibility too http://www.dv247.com/pa-systems-and-liv ... ing--62065

Matt, if you can pull off something like those builds you linked to this will be stunning :D Way beyond anything I could even contemplate, but following your progress over the next few months / year will be fun :D

Hi Ben

I hope it works out. I'm looking forward to building it.

I got a pump off a plumber in work today. Not the exact one, but they said give it a go. I got a quote of 140euro for a new one today
I fitted the pump and had to fill the system to get the pressure back that was released when the old pump ceased. I'm now very warm in the house :D

Cheers

I managed to get a power amp for the sub build :D

Its a Chevin Research A1000. It has 2 x 600watts @ 4ohms, or 1 x 1200watts bridged @ 8ohms.

This will mean i need to buy a dual 4ohm sub so i can wire the 2 coils in series to present the amp with an 8ohm load. Then when i have a second sub and buy a bigger amp, the subs can be wired in parallel to give a 2ohm load which would suit a bigger amp.

I had a petrol rc car for sale. Somebody was interested for the last month but wanted a part ex for another car as he didnt have the full price of the car in cash.
I didnt want another car, so asked if he had a pro power amp on the off chance. And he did :)

Matt sorry for the late reply to your amplifier update, this certainly looks like it will have the shunt you need for the big driver your thinking of  also that worked out well with your RC car...brilliant, this is you at the starting post with the sub so look forward to anymore updates.
Cheers

Hi Benny

I'm currently exchanging emails about driver options, so hope to know what I'll be going for during the week, then place an order for the driver in the next week or two.

I need to find out what I need to use as a LPF with the sub/amp also.

Cheers

Matt why do you need a sub with 2 15" drivers in your PA 65's?

Hi Spacey

Due to their design for high SPL output, they don't have as much deep bass as I would like.

Shadorne put the bass driver details into winisd to show me how it performs in the 65L sealed enclosure. Internal cabinet damping materials can bring the effective volume upto around 90L.
This gives a -6db point of 54hz. Higher than the scm50's.

The PA-65's will play 10hz when cranked up, but under normal listening, even after room gain, there isn't enough output below 30hz.

So I'm going to build a couple of subs(1 at a time) to fill in below 30hz.

Cheers

Get ya. how are you planning on crossing them over?
Wouldnt it be easier to build some 150 cabs instead?

I'd love some 150 cabs, but they would be huge in my room.

I've got the all clear for a couple of curved cabinet subs made from layered plywood so they will look like furniture as opposed to square black boxes.

I'm not sure what to use for LPF/Eq yet. Any suggestions?
Minidsp seems to be the way to go when looking over on some forums, but ive not looked into it properly. http://www.minidsp.com/
It doesn't exactly look like plug and play anyway.

Another option is to sell the Chevin amp and buy something like a crown xti amp http://www.crownaudio.com/amp_htm/xti.htm

These have built in dsp including crossovers etc.

Cheers

Hi Ben

I've been searching the internet, and attempting to use software called WinISD to calculate the correct box volume for a particular bass driver.

I'm restricted to what driver i can use by the maximum size of enclosure i want in the room.
For example, one 18inch bass driver will work optimally in a sealed enclosure of around 100 L, whereas another make driver requires a 700 L enclosure.
I'm close to making a decision on a bass driver :) I just need to decide if i should be sensible about this, or go all out and build a beast :D

I just won one of these on ebay to use as EQ http://usa.yamaha.com/products/live_sou ... mode=model

Cheers

The Yamaha equaliser looks very nice :D

Hmm, sensible or beast? Well you're only going to get one answer on here!
