Matt's System
Re: Matt's System
Hmm, sensible or beast? Well you're only going to get one answer on here!
(Can we start one of those polls? )

As you probably guessed, i'm leaning towards the beast option

Re: Matt's System
is two beasts an option?
seriously, though, have you thought of two subs? more work but may be easier from domestic point of view.

Hi Almaatakz
I do plan to build 2 subs eventually.
I'm currently looking at different size and make bass drivers to see what size cabinet they will work in.
Cheers

Re: Matt's System
Here's a few contenders for bass drivers for the sub.
The enclosure volume will be around 75 litres, and the following 3 drivers will all work well in an enclosure of approximately that size, even though we have 12", 15", and 18" units.
The RE Audio XXX 12 http://audiosavings.com/content/ebay/Mi ... review.pdf
This comes in the middle of the price range of the 3 drivers.
The Fi Q15 http://www.bladeice.com/index.php/produ ... o/q-series
This is the cheapest of the 3 drivers.
The Tc sounds LMS 5400(18 "). The pic below shows the JL Audio f113(slightly larger version of my old sub, 13.5 inch driver vs 12 inch in my old sub).
The sub beside it is a diy sub using the 18" Tc sounds driver. This is the most expensive of the 3 drivers.

I vote for 18" beast!

I'm thinking along those lines myself

It will mean the face of the enclosure will be quite large to fit the driver, but total enclosure volume will only need to be the same as the smaller drivers.
Here is where the LMS 5400 idea came from in a small enclosure. Something along the lines of what i want to build http://www.funkaudio.ca/18.0.html

Re: Matt's System
I picked up a sheet of 25mm MDF to build a sub box. This will be a test box of sorts, using only 1 sheet of MDF for the whole enclosure. I will be building it with curved side walls using this Kerfing method http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYfRyt6OQkY
The construction of the box will be similar to this design

The final box will require 4 of 5 sheets of Birch ply, stacked, so will be quite expensive. The test box of similar internal volume will ensure the sub sounds as planned without spending a lot of time and money building a good enclosure.

Hi Matt,
can you recommend an audiophile quality XLR splitter for the sub connection from preamp ?

Re: Matt's System
Hi Hans
When i had a sub in the system before, i just adapted a pair of xlr connectors and soldered 2 cables into each.
A pair of good quality splitter's like Benny suggested would probably be your best option.
Cheers
