$ 35,000 for standard-veneer ATC 100s ?? :shock:

Clearly a misprint, the correct price should be around $ 18,000 or so.

Hey guys, they weren't standard veneers, or at least not a standard finish. You might not be able to tell, but they were a gloss finish, quite nice. I, too, thought they were about $18,000 but was informed by Brad that they were $38,000 (or thereabouts, no notes and a poor recollection). It's hard to keep track of everything you see at these shows. We saw a pair of Vovatix speakers, I thought they were the horrifically expensive $38,000 version, only to be corrected that they were the $100,000 iteration! :o

I'm not sure who these shows are organized for, but maybe they bring their crazy ideas, hope they sell them, but if they don't they've "softened the market" for their regular priced, now only expensive products!

Channel Islands with Von Schweikert speakers had a really nice system for "only" $8,000. It really did sound good, and $8,000 is still a pretty penney, but given the costs of the other offerings . . . it paints a distorted picture.

Best,

Larry

Thanks for the additional info Larry.
In that case, as well as the special finish they probably include the anniversary amp packs too.
I'm sure Brad has the full details :)

Cheers.

It seems there's a great review of ATC EL150 in Streoplay of Germany - that's what I could work out from Google translate :)
It would be great if German speaking friends could provide a summary of the review :)

Oh yes I downloaded it. Extremely transparent neutral speaker with precise yet musical bass and perfect timing. Plays superbly both quietly and brutally loud, but is very critical of positioning and room acoustics.

I think they tested the passive version although he doesn't say which amp they used ( I think Stereoplay use the Ayre monoblocks )

Thanks Dogill, that's very kind of you :)

Yes, they did test the passive ones but they also remark about the active ones I think.
They rated them very highly too, 68 out 70 is amazing :D

BTW, I have had no problems at all with the positioning or room acoustics; I have a set of very simple panels which seemed to be enough as far as the room acoustics go.
I did play around quite a bit in terms of positioning to achieve better SQ but generally they sounded great in most positions :)

I think they are trying to say that the large EL150 panel ( unfashionable, just think of the ridiculously thin PMC Fact speakers ) is trying to emulate soffit mounted pro speakers which has advantages but only in good rooms.

Mev,

Great find. Why don't you start a thread topic about ATC Equipment Reviews and post all these great articles where newcomers can easily find them?

Just a thought. Anyway I really appreciate these golden nuggets you have found!

Good idea Shadorne but I am not sure if I can find enough reviews, worth a try anyhow.
