Peter:

Nice clean setup, looks great.

Are you using some isolation under all of your speakers? It looks like Aurelex Sub-Dudes, is that correct?

Can you identify the differences you hear with them in place? Is your floor "suspended" or on top of a concrete slab?

In advance, thanks for your attention and congratulations on a nice looking setup.

I was thinking that there were some large pieces of slate or similar stone there, but now you mention it I can see they could be isolation of some kind

Hi Larry,

Thanks!

I do have a rather bouncy suspended floor, so I am using gardening granite slabs placed on top of a bit of carpet, for isolation.
I have noticed a significant difference in the sound quality, and I definitely consider it a noticeable upgrade.
The bass is tighter and more controlled, and the sound imaging is much better.
The bass from the subwoofer is not so boomy in the adjacent rooms, (but this can also have to do with the fact that I have relocated it from where it stood before).
I have also observed that I need to dial the volume control higher than before to perceive the same loudness.
I also will try isolating the amp and the Blue-ray player with the Auralex Gramma.
Many recommend the Auralex Gramma as being the best way to go, so I will try and see if I can arrange a “trial” purchase from a dealer.

Best regards
Peter

Peter:

Thanks.

I have a suspended floor also. I have Sound Anchor stands under them - very heavy, filled with lead, I believe. I've thought about trying another layer of damping
(Aurelex or Herbies footers) to see what that would do. It seems isolation devices shift resonant frequencies more than anything, even if that's desirable. So the
reduction in boomy qualities may be from that.

I'm finishing up two subwoofers after mucking around with their design - I haven't figured out what to do with footers. My tediously incremental development of
woodworking skills thwarts getting what I want. I can't seem to link my vision to my execution. So it goes. :-)
