What are they for and do you need active or passive?

aren't those passive? I want actives as I am used to active quality now and also to redice the box count.

for the second system, source - Squeezebox Touch. Strong preference for actives due to inherent sound quality and to reduce the number of boxes. must be small (e.g. the avi's are a bit too big).

If you are leaning towards the Adams there are lots of price and size-comparable active pro monitors, don't know if you'd be able to demo many of them but I'd be interesting in hearing the results :)

Ah yes, was thinking of the AE22 actives; they might be discontinued now but I'm sure you can still get them?

Hi Almaatakz

Have you sorted the small active speakers you were looking for?

Cheers

Got these today for the ipod in-ears.

Image

I listen to music on the ipod a lot (daily commute) so sound quality (and noise isolation) are important. I quite like the apple in-ears (dual driver blanced armature, very neutral sound, without bloated bass, integrated controls) and with the new eartips they are fantastic. the tips provide excellent seal and sound isolation so the sound improves. They also mean listening at lower volume level.

Highly recommended - you can get a version to fit most earphones.http://www.complyfoam.com/

FWIW: Dr Dre Pro's work quite well. They fold up well into the provided bag - so you can shove them in a backpack or the bottom of a carry on suitcase/briefcase. The bass is way overemphasized (and slightly ill defined in upper bass) but I find the sound is quite balanced with the iphone EQ set to "reduce bass". Their mid range is excellent - they really got it right there. A little short of studio quality sound (although I would rate them excellent sound) but they are extremely robust and that is where I have found them ideal for travel - they work great on long haul flights being very comfortable and with superb isolation (up there with the best in that category yet remaining comfortable to wear). Another important factor is that they can be driven very loudly/dynamically by the dinky iPhone or ipad or iPodwhich, as everyone knows, is a big advantage over many studio quality headphones that will simply sound crap unless driven with a decent headphone amp.

Image

I have tried the Dr Dre Studios (with noise reduction) and they are absolutely crap - not only are they flimsy but the sound is terrible - so the Beats Pro is the ONLY headphone I can recommend from Monster.

We are now firmly settled in the new place and I finally got to take some better pics of the kit at the new location:

It is 1.5 years now since the big upgrade and I cannot stop enjoying the kit, especially the 50s. Highly recommended!
