Hi Folks

Postby Taihuus » Thu Sep 29, 2011 6:57 pm

Hi Everyone

I have just joined this Forum, and I own a mk 1 CA2 Pre and a pair of old SCM50a's or at least I have paid for them they should arrive tomorrow. :D . They will be mainly driven by my old (like me) Marantz CD94/CDA94 CD player and my Gyrodeck with helius Orion mk 3.

I will be retiring next year early due to health problems and I hope by joining ATC I will leave the expensive upgrading box swapping habit I have far behind.

regards and best wishes

Taihuus

Hi Taihuus, welcome to the forum :) Sorry to hear about your health problems but there aren't many better speakers to retire and listen to, and there's plenty of people on the forum who say they are their last speakers :D

Hi Taihuus I hope you have a long restful retirement & your health improves a little because of it, at least you have a very good system to help you through...but they've not invented a pill to wipe the smile from your face caused by listening to ATC's scm50asl, welcome to the forum.

:D :) :o
well folks the SCM50a's are here!!!!!!
My wife Carol and my self struggled with their less then peite boxes into the house, up the stairs and into the dedicated but small listening room. When we got our backs put back into place and our breath back, we struggled to get them on their stands, I placed them first where our previous speakers (tannoy 12inch D.C. LGM's) went in the vain hope they would work there, soldered up the balanced leads plugged in and collapsed on to the sofa. :o  :? They worked perfectly in the place we put them. they are superb. Okay I know these are second hand and not the latest drivers etc but wow they are the best I have heard in my very difficult room. No boom just total control and the detail is to die for. You guys with the latest version must never leave your rooms if they are better then my old beauties.
I know I will be advised to update them (and at some time I may) but I am so happy with what they are giving me, i can stop the endless hunt for better kit now, I am at peace. Well I intend to add a phono stage to the CA2 and have spoken to ATC re this, but need to pay for this upgrade first.

What shocked me most is the bass. I have deeper bass then with an active sub but no fiddling to adjust the level etc, and no bloom. The dynamics gave me a few shocks as well. Oh Joy.

I will sort out a few pics guys as soon as the room is tidied up and suitable to be photographed.

Regards

hi Rick @ musicraft
What are you using as a transport with the CDA94?
well everyone after 8 hours of running the set up I am still very impressed. I am a bit sore I never discovered them earlier as I could have saved myself a fortune. Oh well better late then never. I also discovered in our heatwave here that they can throw out a fair bit of heat, great for later on when the snow falls. Now the main problem is how do I get those boxes up into the loft for storage, Oh well leave it for a while the musics playing.

At least now you have found the 50's you won't need to upgrade again, unless you decide to have your pair upgraded to current spec?

I had to fold my boxes to fit them on the attic. I hoped I wouldn't have to, but they just wouldn't fit.
My sub box is still sitting in the spare room, and we have relations coming to stay on November, so I need to move it :?

Enjoy the hifi and the music :D

Cheers
Matt
