ATC PA-65

Postby MattSPL » Thu Dec 22, 2011 3:26 pm

Has anybody heard ATC's PA-65, or have any info on them? There doesn't seem to be much information on the internet about them.

Yes I have both heard them and sold them. They are essentially ATC 150s with a PA woofer inside, not an SL. So they do not sound like 150s, they trade low end (the stuff below 350Hz) for greater overall output SPL. The best PA speaker ever I think! These are used in some clubs in London I am told. This was years ago so I know how often these clubs change, so anyone know if Umbala still exists? I have photos of them in use there.

Hi Brad

Thanks for the reply :)

Ive just bought these(to be delivered in January) http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem ... 0762803995
They have a pair of new SL bass drivers installed, along with seas tweeters, so I'm hoping they will sound good/similar to the scmSL range. What do you think?
I recently sold my scm50 pro's, and these PA65's came up on eBay through a dealer I know. I couldn't resist.

Cheers

Well I would think that would sound close to a 150 then.

Matt,

These are much smaller than the 150 and are not ported.I think you will lose bass extension compared to the 150 (about 6 dB) but the power handling will improve at high SPL and the bass will be very tight. These are specifically designed to go in clubs and to go with subwoofer(s). Probably between an SCM 50 and 100 in freq response but more like an SCM 150 in terms of output.

Hi Shadorne

Thanks for the reply :)

Yes, I'm guessing a 65L enclosure, although the specs suggest the same bass response as the 150's, measuring -6db at 25hz. I hope to have them in a week or so, and will let you know how they perform.

Well this suggests they must use a different woofer than the 150 as a smaller unported box is just not going to play as loud with the same driver as in the 150. essentially you lose 3db for halving the box and another 3db for removing the port. I see Brad has suggested they use a long coil version which would make sense.

My guess is that they use something like an SL version of the ATC PA75-375 which has a much higher sensitivity than the regular SB75-375 in the 150. ATC PA series of woofers are also used by other live sound PA manufacturers as OEM.

Hi Shadorne

I've been told they are exactly the same as the 150's, except the cabinets. They have just been refurbished, including new bass drivers, tweeters and 1 new amp pack.
I'll have to wait see.

The specs I've read could be for the version Brad mentioned that use a non SL bass unit?

Thanks for the link Shadorne :)

ATC certainly make a good selection of drive units. I'll be tempted to see what's inside the PA-65's when they arrive. I'm hoping they arrive today, but it could after the weekend.
