What do you sit your speakers on?

Postby crimsondonkey » Sat Feb 20, 2010 3:22 pm

When I originally unpacked my 40's I was in such a rush I never bothered with screwing the feet in. They sit flat on 10cm thick granite boards which match the footprint of the speakers quite well.

I have spike feet shoes but don't fancy getting my fingers underneath the heavy speakers to fit the spikes!

Anybody used isolation of any sort?

Yes, definitely!
I have them placed on their spikes in spike-cups on granite slabs: it made a marked difference to the bass, which now becomes more defined and less diffuse.
Then again, it depends on what type of flooring you have, in my case with a wooden floor it is a clear improvement

Hi Ben,

I've had 4TC and 8TC to my 19's and now 40's. It works extremely well. Apart from recent price rises its really very good, and second hand it can be had for good prices.

I rate Isolda DCT a bit higher and this is also keen S/H. Overall it just gives a bit more of everything compared to 8TC, and is very balanced and creates a nice realistic sound. Worth auditioning/ borrowing both and see which you prefer.

The great thing about ATC's is that its not hard to pick put the differences - its harder to decide which you prefer though :P

I second CD's comments on the 8TC. Basically that cable doesn't do anything wrong, pretty safe choice.
I have also tried Chord Odyssey 4 and found them too bright/harsh in combination with the 40's (in contrast to eg. B&W speakers...)

In short: my speakers are on - the floor! I've tried the granite chopping blocks on my wooden (and rather loose) floor but it seemed to lose lots of bass. Spiked Soundstyle XS-122 stands from Rick....... :geek:

i managed to grit my teeth and make sure I screwed the spikes in as I have a carpeted wooden floor. Never had any bass problems and the imaging and depth improved as well.

My knee, but only if they have behaved well.
They say if you can remember the 60's, you weren't really there. Now somehow I have reached 62...oh shit, it's 63 now....How and when did THAT happen?....there's a lesson there somewhere if only I could figure it out...
