Pre/Dac for active SCM50's

Postby Scrawp » Sat Dec 31, 2016 3:52 pm

I've been running a pair of active 50's for a year with a Cyrus Dac XP Signature as a pre/dac. Sounds great but I can't help feeling that I could do better than the Cyrus. Can anyone suggest a pre/dac, or separate pre and dac, to consider. Max approx £3k.

I haven't actually heard one yet but I'm seriously considering one myself!

I've just been reading up on the Mytek Brooklyn. Looks good.

I use a Benchmark DAC2 DAC/PRE with my active 70's and am very happy.......

It has some handy features for better amp gain matching........(very important for us active ATC boys with non adjustable 1V sensitivity!!!)

FWIW..........You could easily score the very latest, even better specced, DAC3 within your budget!!!!

Benchmark offer a few variations which are differently configured (and priced)........E.G.....if you want a Headphone Amp or not......analog inputs or not....etc........and they're all universal voltage capable too!!!

Very highly recommended.......... but I guess your current transports' (?) abilities and personal DSD handling requirements (along with budget)will dictate the likely contenders for you anyway!!!!

Lastly......IME and IMHO I think the right DAC/PRE with a direct XLR connection to your ATC's will offer superior SQ versus separates...
Just my 2c of course......YMMV

Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestions. I should have mentioned that I require at least 1 pair of analogue inputs for the pre outs from my av amp.
