ATC Sca2

Postby markf » Thu Nov 30, 2017 6:33 pm

Hi...

I see the Sca2 seems to show up at £6,700 on some websites. What do they tend to go for s/h in best condition?

Thanks!

Between 1200 and 3000. Usually 1800-2200. Having the phono board fitted doesn't seem to dictate the price.
They say if you can remember the 60's, you weren't really there. Now somehow I have reached 63...oh shit, it's 64 now....How and when did THAT happen?....there's a lesson there somewhere if only I could figure it out...

Ah thanks, I thought dead in the middle of your "usually" at £2,000 (but I wanted to check I was about right). The reason I ask is I have one to list for sale you see, I'm just getting some photos together of it over the weekend and I'll put it up.

Probably going pre-less. I only have digital sources now.

Trading in the pre was an option when we added the Rossini DAC. Decided after a head to head to keep the sca2 - it wasn’t close but probably the results vary from one set up to another.

Hi Darren. The Rossini is sublime. The dealer at the time said don’t listen to it with the clock. Well we did and that put a sizeable dent in the wallet we hadn’t anticipated. The clock came too.

On its own it presents music in the most wonderful and engaging manner. I’m struggling truth to tell to explain in words. The clock takes it up several notches again. It really is a massive jump in performance.

There’s detail in abundance but it is all presented in a way that you just want to keep listening and go digging through long forgotten pieces of music. I find myself regularly thinking, well I’ve never heard that before on well known tracks. Great fun.

Before the Rossini we were Linn afficianados - best part of 30 years in fact. We moved to an Auralic Aries and Vega from the then KDS 2. We could not get the Auralic to stream without constant interruptions. We jumped to an Aurender X100 with a Lindemann DAC. That was a fantastic combo. Then we heard the Rossini and the rest as they say......

We are currently waiting on the delayed dCS software update which will allow the Rossini, The Bridge and Vivaldi to play MQA files. I haven’t heard MQA and I am very curious. It certainly seems to generate strong opinions. I’m happy to have a listen. I know that there was speculation some time ago that MQA ability would necessitate a hardware addition. That is not now the case and the dCS elves have managed to effect it by means of software. There was a Rossini MQA unit on dem at the Munich Show some months ago but I didn’t see much comment.

So back to your original question. Short of a lottery win and a listen to the Vivaldi combo we are beyond happy with the Rossini. It makes very, very nice noises through the ATC kit.

If Stereophile are to be believed, you get Vivaldi 1.0-like measured performance, which is the best I've seen. Enjoy it!
