Re: SH34-76 ATC's first ever HF Drive Unit - Pictures
Could these new drivers replace the tweeters in my SCM11's or are they just for ATC's higher end models? If so does anyone have any thoughts if this would be worth doing ?

Any word on the design? Last time I spoke with Ben Lily (R&D Engineer at ATC), he explained they were working on a design without ferrofluid (which would be more accurate but much more expensive). Eliminating ferrofluid will reduce harmonic distortion but will make manufacturing tolerances trickier and heat dissipation or power handling more challenging.
Anyway, before anyone gets too excited, we must remember it is just a tweeter. And modern tweeters already have the best performance of all transducers. So there will be no fundamental improvement - just an incremental one. The action happens in the midrange and according Zaph audio ATC midrange is " Probably one of the cleanest midrange domes I've tested, with the lower midrange coming close to the noise floor of my measurement setup."
Scroll down to the Sept 2011 newer driver tests - here is the link

Interesting remark about the lower midrange noise floor... The plot shows the all important (non musical) 3rd harmonic distortion at the lower end of the usable range down an astonishing 70 decibels! No wonder the lower midrange sounds so much cleaner on ATC's than any other design I have heard.

The 34mm HF unit should already be available for domestic SCM300 monitors. I hope the 25mm will be ready next year : Perhaps i should help ATC speed up the process by helping with the design of the 25mm HF unit![]()

Rick, unless they are releasing in the UK initially to see how it goes, the ATC "black 34" tweeter is not yet available in 200s/300s the US. I am looking forward to it though! A lot of customers who own 300's in their studio will want this upgrade (Blackbird in Nashville comes to mind). I'll bet you'll hear about it in a test run at some close to the factory studio first-to make sure it is everything Billy Woodman hoped for.

This is a monster of a manster!
so how does one go about installing the new HF driver into domestic models e.g. 50s?
do they have to go to factory? what is the price of factory fitting?
Or is DIY an option? if so, how much are the drivers alone and what does the installation involve in terms of removal of the old driver, fitting, connecting etc. Any implications for the crossover settings an/or levels?

We just got our first set of SH34-76, already off to Blackbird Studios for testing in their 300s!
I also received confirmation that the new set of 300s I just ordered for a customer will come equipped with the new 34mm tweeter, so it has completed all pre production testing and is shipping in the high power application. Now I want the white paper on it!

Any news/feedback on the ATC tweeter anyone, I'm hoping they also develop the 25mm version?

Hi Mev
The last i heard was that the doping material for the 25mm tweeter was all that was left to complete, then obviously final testing etc.
Cheers

I have a pair of 50`s that I want to upgrade to the SL spec but I am holding out for the new tweeter.
What is the latest news regarding production units, the last I heard was that it was in the testing phase ?
