Raj I've had my AZG/V for a few hours now & no noise & the bottom of the Voltikus is warm like an amplifier but no more.

Cheers
Benny.

Cheers Benny, Thanks for taking the time to compare. I've had a bit a day with Northen Electric!! had them around all day to find out why we're having voltage spikes; upto 257v!! this may very well be the cause...

We live in a very small village, all the power comes via over head cables. Since they've been up the poll this evening (changed some connections), been to the substation and are now checking the HV lines right back to the national grid, the Voltikus seems cooler :D

Interesting stuff Spacey(I'm an electrician). Have you checked the voltage since the work today?

Cheers

Matt, yes, i have a digital multimeter connected, at the moment we're peaking at 259v !! its still far to high. Max should be 253v and an avarage should be 235v. Its started heating up again

Any suggestion what to do next?

Its got to be the voltage coz when its running at 240-245v its much cooler

Am I right in thinking that the Voltikus takes the mains supply and feeds the zodiac with something like 12 volts?
Is there any way you can check the voltage coming out of the Voltikus?

Cheers

Yes the voltikus puts out 18v DC. i have checked and its a steady 18v. Main voltage is going up and down from 240v midday to 259v about now...

It seems strange that the Dac would heat up if it's getting a steady correct supply. You'd think the Voltikus might get hot if anything?

Maybe ring their tech support?

Cheers

Matt the DAC doesnt get hot its just ever so slightly warm. Its the Voltikus that gets piping hot!!
It seems to be a mains voltage issue to me. 220-253v is the Voltkius' working limits.

Ah, that makes sense, I thought the Dac was getting hot. Certainly sounds like a voltage issue.
What's the rating on the standard supply for the Dac? That's a sw mode unit is it? Might be worth using that until the problem is fixed.

Cheers

Yes, the smps's usually have a much wider operating range. Might be worth using this until your mains voltage comes down to avoid damaging the Voltikus.

Back to the DAC :)

I now understand why Antelope and the reviewers all recommend 500+ hours.. what a brilliant piece of kit.
