Room size for ATC SCM 50ASLT's

Postby markvh1 » Tue Dec 06, 2016 8:44 pm

Hi,
I may have one of two rooms to turn into a dedicated stereo listening room at home soon.
The room sizes are 3.8m x 3.0m x 2.3m high and 3.1m x 3.2m x 2.3m high.
Would one of these rooms be a suitable size for stereo listening using my SCM50ASLT's (which I have in the lounge at the moment), if so which one? Or are both too much on the small side?
Thanks
Mark

Well I'm no expert but it seems to me that the bigger room should work better.

IMHO by using the short wall you will have more leeway in placement options out into the room which reduces potential bass issues caused by being back too close to it.

I have read, however, that going with the long wall can work well for wider sound staging with the added benefit of the speakers being further from the side walls which can reduce first reflection issues.

Maybe you will need to experiment a bit with differing positions for the speakers and your MLP..........Don't forget room treatment too.

BTW ........how's the SQ in your Lounge room and how big is it?..........maybe you are better off not even moving!!!!

Anyway.......Hopefully someone much more knowledgeable than I will have a better reply for you!!!

Good Luck

Square rooms are a big "no-no"; they can cause all sorts of problems with reflections etc. I agree with linger63, go with the larger, more rectangular room.

Thanks,
I'll try the larger rectangular room when it is available. The lounge is 7.2m x 3.7m x 2.3m, with the speakers back to the long wall. I always feel that I can't get the set up as good as it can be because of all the other paraphernalia in the room and chimney breast etc being in the wrong place etc etc.
