Stands for ATC SCM10

Postby Mariner » Thu Mar 23, 2017 5:59 pm

More than 20 years ago, as i bought my first ATC speakers (ATC SCM20), i took the measures from the original stands at the dealer to build them by myself.

Now i have a pair of SCM 10 and i like to build the stands for them again.
What i miss are the original measures !

Does anybody have them at home, or knew the measures, or know where to find them ??

Thanks for your help !!

Is nobody here that owns the original szands
and is able to do me the favor of a little measurement?
All i need is the area the box stands up, the floor area,
the height and the diameter of the Tube.
THANKS A LOT!

Hi,

Not sure anybody will know the stands pictured, but you could try calling ATC.

Cheers

Thanks for your answer Matt !!

I´m a little bit astonished, because those stands were sold by ATC !
As you can see in this Ebay auction:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/311831200260?_tr ... EBIDX%3AIT

Ok. the tubes are black, but these are the same kind of stands.
I don´t like to ask ATC themself because they sold them, or maybe still do??
It is a little bit outrageous !
Hey you build this fantastic stands !
Please give me the measures so that i can build it by myself! ;)

But if nobody knows them
i try to downsize the stands in relationship to the difference between SCM20 and SCM10.

I don't think ATC would mind you building your own stands, and I'm sure they would be happy to give you the measurements!
Just try it! :)

Well Ben JUST left in on maternity leave, so be patient! He';s the one usually answering these emails.

I have heard the ATC stands (built and sold before my time with them so 80s? 90s?) was a nightmare and something packaged with a specific speaker. Now they don't do stands anymore and I am glad they don't. You can never make everyone happy with stands and it becomes point of compliant.

The height of the speaker needs to be the spot between the woofer and tweeter- this should line up to your ear when seated. Being slightly below that point is better than being above.

There are a lot of stands available out there, Atacama Nexus 6i look nice.

Hi Brad,

thanks for your answer !

I am , over more than 20years, complete satisfied with the "ATC-like" stands.
Maybe because i build them by myself!! ;)
The main reason why i will build some for the SCM10, is that i already have one pair for the SCM20,
and the should play together in a surround-system.
So i have one "look" !
As i wrote... i will downgrade the size of the SCM20 stand, and make the "tube" a little longer so that the
HT-units are on the same height. That might fit !

Plan on filling that tube with sand or buck shot or something to get the resonance (ringing) reduced. If you can hit a stand and hear any kind of ring, you know its no good for speaker use. That ring will be on top of the audio.

Hi Brad ,

Thanks for that advice!
The stands, i build a long time ago, have sand in their tubes from the beginning, and so will the new ones.
As far as the dealer told me, if i remember it right, so Do the originals.
But it is long ago. ;)
Maybe i will get an answer from ATC with all the informations needed?
We will see!
Thanks again for your support!
