150mm bass cone on to which is grafted a 75mm soft dome.

I'm looking at the SCM20SL and SCM40 and was wondering if the info on the SCM20SL "150mm bass cone on to which is grafted a 75mm soft dome." means that it has incorporated the same/similar mid driver on the SCM40 onto the "SL" driver on the SCM19/20 models as a hybrid and how it compares in the mid range?

Hi,

Yes the SL midbass does incorporate a mid dome rather than your usual dust cap. It's performance is superb, but won't match the scm40's dedicated mid dome.
I've not compared them directly, but have owned scm19's, 50's and PA65's.

Cheers

The best way to think of it is the ATC 2 way has the best midrange of any 2 way on the market, due to the unique SL driver design that grafts a mid dome cone (not a driver, not a coax) onto the woofer cone. Very clever way to get better Mid and high mid output from woofer.

The SCM40 and SCM20 can be compared, and both designs have pros and cons.

I would listen to them and see which you prefer to be honest. The SCM40 is arguably a better speaker overall but the 20 has the advantage of the SL driver...
