New ATC SCM20 ASL PRO Mk2

Postby AndyU » Wed Mar 12, 2014 6:51 pm

ATC have announced a new SCM20 ASL PRO Mk2 on their facebook page - here.

They also say

The SCM20ASL Pro MkII is a brand new product which has a much improved amplifier (approx. -10dB improvement on the THD of both the Bass and HF amplfiers!), the new ATC SH25-76S tweeter (the big brother of the SH25-76) and whole new cabinet design. Further details of this new product including its release date will be published on the ATC website and Facebook page soon.

So .. is that not only a new tweeter but a 'much improved amplifier' to look forward to (and save up for) on the rest of the range?

woops - this probably should have been in the "News" section - if a mod wants to move it, feel free

Will this model be available as a passive version also?
Any info on when the Classic series will be available with the SH25-76S tweeter?

I'm sure the new tweeter will be available in a passive scm20 also.

As for the new tweeter in the classic series, one forum member spoke to Billy woodman earlier in the year about this at a conference in Australia. The timeframe mentioned for an scm100asl with new tweeter was a few months.

Cheers

Is there a tentative price for the new powered 20s?
Will there be a powered domestic version? Wondering how ATC will affix the power pack to the lute shape o the back of the speaker.

External rotary switches are on my demo models and first production only; they will be recessed trimmer type in the next batch I believe.

I have the 1998 20A Pro model with the rotary switches for bass boost, so they may very well keep them for the new one.

Hello All,

Any thoughts on how the SCM20ASL Pro mk2 would compare to SCM10A-2 speakers?

I currently have SCM10A-2s fronted by a Rega analog and a Naim digital system, with Naim preamp. Cables a mixture of Naim / Chord throughout.

Love the sound of the 10A-2s, which were purchased used about 18 months ago, but want more of it - scale, slam, etc.. The 40A's are out of my price range, so thus the investigation into the PRO 20s, which on paper look like tremendous VFM.

Regards

Aric

Big fan of active ATC.
I have at home scm10-2a , scm20-2a , c4ca , and 0.1/12 sub.
Plus scm100asl pro and the new scm20 asl pro mk2.
As you are aware the active scm10-2a is a hell of a good speaker !
Amazing what it is capable of with just a 5 inch driver , I love mine too !

But active 20's are just better and definitely give you more of everything.
The older scm20-2asl with the seas excel tweeter , is brilliant and was the best two way speaker I had ever heard until the arrival of the new scm20 asl pro mk2.
These use the top of the line S spec tweeter and it really is a step up in performance over the already excellent seas excel used previously.
Clean tight and surprisingly powerful bass and just superbly transparent without any hint of harshness.
These new 20asl pro mk2 may just be the biggest bargain in the audio world IMO.

So yes , they are a very worthwhile upgrade over the great scm10-2a that you already have.

Technics SL1000MK3 turntable , Dynavector 17d3 , Whest PS30R.
