Re: ATC curved SCM40 Active
Mains really can make a large difference. Keeping the earth resistance as low as possible seems to have a large impact as well.
A flat I lived in up until a year ago had all sorts of issues with power (which culminated in having all the floors lifted up and entirely new wiring installed). One of the issues was a very high earth resistance, around 300-400 Ω if I remember correctly. The improvement in sound when we had a new ground rod and distribution installed was very very noticeable. Even more so with microphones/preamps.

ATC will today launch their eagerly awaited curved SCM40A (active) monitors at CES 2015 (Las Vegas)

The curved SCM40A is an active version of ATC's highly successful curved SCM40 passive monitors. The 3-way design, employing all hand built ATC drive units is complimented with a built-in 235Watt class AB tri-amplifier. The MOSFET based amplifier is a modified version of that found in ATC's larger active monitors, the SCM50ASL, SCM100ASL and SCM150ASL.

Re: ATC curved SCM40 Active
The 40 Actives arrived yesterday. Ran them all afternoon side by side with some passive 40s running ATC CA2/P1 and a Marantz SA-7 cd player. Later on they went home onto a better setup where they had another 6 hours running. The differences are there to hear, some subtle and some big.
The Actives voice much more accurately with better definition around vocals. Decay lasts longer, minute details in the treble are easily heard. Bass response is quicker and above all the dynamics are superb. Drums kick much more naturally and piano sounds like it is there in front of you.
This speaker is very close to the 50A.
Original published power for the tweeter was 25W but the manual and website now says differently - Amplifier Output: 150W LF, 60W MF, 32W HF

Re: ATC curved SCM40 Active
Can anyone tell me..
1. Do the 40As have adjustable input sensitivity (like the pro models)?
2. And do they have adjustable bass boost (like the pro models)?
Cheers!

And they have a fault light at the back, not sure what that is for, especially if you can't see it while listening...

Re: ATC curved SCM40 Active
It's to let you know there is no sound coming out
Seriously though it's more an indicator for the ATC engineers, if that light is on there is definitely an output problem

The red light on the rear is to indicate one of two possible fault conditions and that 'protect' mode (shut down) has occured:
1. The amplifier plate is too hot
2. There is a DC voltage on the output of any of the three amplifiers
Kind Regards,

Re: ATC curved SCM40 Active
Old thread now but i my recent opinion the absolute Bang for the buck as you would say in the USA is the Active 40
you get 3 way which means the Mid dome , seriously the resolution and detail (realism, natural sound of a real piano ) of every instrument was flabbergasting compared to
an atc at well over twice/trice the price , just stunning, factory visit yesterday 15th feb 2017
Seriously fantastic quality for the price , this is in a brief comparison with 50se's at 4 times the price
ok 50's a bit groovier but the detail and sound stage of the 40's could not be surpassed
so easy to listen to everything individually yet gelled as a whole
honestly (as an owner of 100's not listened to them yet as having tweeter upgrade & service, as i type) I would just buy
these 40a's and invest in music
Bloody unbelievable ! Incredible value !!

Are you saying that the 40s are better than the 50s and the 100s? How can that be and if that is the case then why bother with the larger models? Please clarify.
