I was a bit too young to appreciate it then but now, well that was the most absorbing two hours of viewing I've had this year. Amazing performances from an all star cast! Well worth the price of admission :D go and see it, you will not regret it. 10/10

Haven't heard of that one Mark, will have a look ;)

2 weekends ago saw 'Hugo' the new Martin Scorsese film. Not what you expect from Scorsese, this is a family film, U certificate. The young boy is from 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' (and is much better in this) and the young girl is from Kick Ass (her of the rude word). Male lead is Ben Kingsley.

Surprisingly this has not done that well at the box office (and may indeed have left mainstream cinemas now) but I think over the next 5-10 years this will go down as one of the greatest family films ever. Magical storyline, brilliant acting, perfectly shot. Especially one to see if you have an interest in the origins of cinema :D

And last weekend saw 'The Artist'. Despite being a silent and black & white film, this has done well at the box office and is up for a string of awards. A good companion to Hugo, as both deal with the birth of cinema. I quite like silent movies anyway, and with the progression of cinematography, acting, the construction of film, this may well be the greatest silent film of all time, as well as being brilliant in its own right :D Go see it :D

Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

I'm sure most people will know this well, but we watched the blu ray of this last night and I just wanted to let everyone know how stunning the mastering on this is :D The picture is quite incredible for a film from the '70s. The only minor flaw I could pick out was some banding in the bright alien lights against the dark sky, but otherwise amazing. It gives new life to Spielberg's composition, simplistic perfection both on scenery shots and shots of people.

SQ also brilliant, some lovely effects panning, used sparingly but effectively. And the textured bass rumble when Richard Dreyfuss has his first encounter was incredibly atmospheric, and a nice system test 8-)

Also working my way through the extras now. The 5 note sequence is apparently 1 of 134,000 possible combinations

If you like Horrors, this is a decent scare :D
It gets a bit OTT at times, but then, so do a lot of films of this type.

Genuinely spine tingling at times playing through the ATC's, with the dynamic ability of the speakers doing perfect justice to the jumpy parts of the film :)

Looks good, must check it out :) I have a few films of this genre (just bought The Messengers on blu ray), and even where the plot's fairly standard if it's done well it's still scary and entertaining :)

Masterful cinematography. Fantastic scenes. Up there with Blade Runner on that measure.

Story line was interesting academically but the characters did not feel real. Technical masterpiece but the way messages were hammered home so hard and so consistently it became tiring and predictable as opposed to entrancing.

I don't know if this is available in the UK on bluray but it is fantastic in 1080P. I have watched two episodes so far and I amazed that this was made for TV. It seems like a Holywood blockbuster in terms of scenes, quality and so many extras. The acting is absolutely superb.

Mission Impossible 4 - Ghost Protocol

Image

I watched MI4 on Blu Ray recently and what a disappoint it turned out to be :( I thought the story was poor, poor action scenes and the lack of, poor and muted sound quality, blatant advertising of BMW and Tom Cruise has this fascination of showing him 'running' :? (which i think began with the film The Firm).

If i ever get to meet Tom Cruise i am going to ask him for a refund :D

Thanks
