For point and shoot, IMHO, you cannot go wrong with Canon. I prefer a wide angle point and shoot digital Canon pocket camera. I find pocket digital is often to narrow and the impressive zooms that many of them come with are next to useless anyway - so I prefer ones with a wide angle.

Fantastic shots. Did you use a UV filter?
Now i can see what my 50mm 1.8g and Nikon D7100 is capable off.
I'm taking some pics of a friend of mine today just using the 50mm with the D3200.
Now i know the D3200 is a good basic DSLR so i will also ask my friend if i can take some once the D7100 arrives for comparison.

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking you can never get enough into the frame with a point and shoot camera, so a wide angled lens camera is whats needed.

For example, the Canon SX240 pocket camera is a nice wide angle pocket camera with good features.

oh my oh my the D7100 arrived this morning and while i was thrown back a little by different menus and extra dials ect ect the picture quality really does come out better than the D5200 and speed of the D7100 is v good ad i like the fact i can change ISO in smaller increments.
So much more control and well worth the extra cash.

I don't use any polarizing or colored filters but on some lenses I do use a UV filter simply to protect the lens. For example, the 85mm 1.8g and 50mm 1.4g don't really need protection as the lens is deeply recessed but the 20mm F2.8D benefits from a UV protection filter just to prevent lens scratch or damage.

I will post some pics up by the end of the week with the new camera.
Just trying to get my head around the new features and new menu layout.
