Re: Nikon D800E
D800 is an awesome camera. Just a word on lenses. It does not like the ultra fast 1.4 lenses. I recommend 1.8 to 2.8 primes for best results. The reason is the autofocus. It is not a fault of the camera but a limitation of autofocus systems and lenses. Like all cameras it uses the widest lens optics to adjust the autofocus, however with 1.4 primes you will almost always have them stopped down (either for DOF or better sharpness). Generally there are more often visible autofocus errors with these lenses as the focus really needs some tweaking at different apertures. On a lesser resolution camera you do not see these faults in auto focus but with the incredible resolution of the D800 you will always see it if you pixel peep.
My favorite prime lenses with D800 - nikor 20mm 2.8 , Nikkor 70 mm 1.8, nikkor 300 mm 2.8 (often with TC-17e for birding). I suspect the 1.8 50mm will be equally a great lens with a D800. Of these, only the 20mm is not quite world class but when you consider the portability I prefer this lens hands down to the big clunky 24mm 1.4 wide angle. I find that i can easily crop 20mm wide angle shots to ensure that portraits remain undistorted - the nice thing is that for in door shots you really get a feel for the surroundings or at a table you can squeeze everyone in - then for landscapes this lens is all i need or would want to carry on a hike or pack in my backpack on a plane journey. I also have the 1.4 50mm Nikkor and this lens has been a disappointment for me with the D800.

Nice
Be sure to post some shots when you've had a bit of time with the new camera.
Cheers

Re: Nikon D800E
Well camera has arrived and yes there is a good difference in terms of build quality and image.
I def think the upgrade to full frame has been overdue.
Tried my
Nikon 70-200 VR II 2.8
Nikon 50mm 1.8G
Tamron 24-70 2.8
My god the images are coming out mint
such a big difference. Because i am getting more into events photography i might be buying another D800E sometime in October as i don't want to run the risk of camera failure especially when I'm getting paid!
