Canon full frame slr body

Postby crimsondonkey » Sun Feb 21, 2010 7:15 pm

I have a 400D which I've had for a while. I like it except for the cropping effect. What options are there for a Canon full frame body and how much do I need to budget for second hand?

Hi cd
Have the misfortune, in a financial sense, to be addicted to photography as well as hi-fi. The Canon full-frame model that is available second hand is the 5D. You can pick one up on ebay for a few hundred since people like me have bought the Mk II for around £1750. The original 5D has a great reputation, although the sensor is a bit of a dust magnet. First rate images however.
If you decide to go full-frame your lenses will work at their 'proper' focal lengths.
It is however a mixed blessing. Despite using Canon L lenses that cost around £800-1500 each, the 5D shows lens distortion at wide angles. The smaller sensor crops this out! The detail on my 5D Mk II, 22 mega pixcels is staggering and is great for landscapes. Hope this helps.
