New C3CA?

Postby AlmaataKZ » Wed Mar 15, 2017 11:58 am

I am interested in the active C3CA. Here is the official ATC pic of it:

I understand there is now a new passive C3C, with the new ATC tweeter, new styling and looking like this:

Question:
has the active C3CA been updated - for the new ATC tweeter and/or looks-wise? If so, how does it look?
iMac/Bluray/PVR - Marantz SR7008 - 7.1 ATC SCM50SLAT fronts, C1C centre, SCM7 rears, MonitoAudio M3 rear surr, C4 sub
Airplay multiroom (aex to genelec 6010, b&w mm1, avi dm10)

I have the C5CA which is identical to the C3CA except for the enclosure (mine is black)

The below picture is my actual one that I had imported to Australia back in late 2013 after purchasing from Audio Emotion in the U.K.
The great staff there even helped with organising International shipping.........AND gave me a bit off!!!!
Cost me 350 pounds to get it here though.............weighs a ton!!!!

It sounds absolutely SUPERB and fits in VERY well with my SCM 70A SL Mains.
Of course I would prefer a C6A but they are just TOO much $$ for me!!!

Both the C5CA and the C3CA are clearly a BIG step above the C3C just regarding drivers............let alone being active.

I don't know if ATC have plans to release an updated C3CA or C5CA with their new tweeter as yet.

If I was you though I would be looking for a MUCH cheaper used C5CA..... vs buying an EXPENSIVE new C3CA.....
as they are the EXACT SAME thing!!! :D

Agreed, a used C5CA could be a good (better) deal. But they are very rare! I also have a slight preference for C3CA in terms of looks (a bit more simple).

AlmaataKZ,

Would you consider a single SCM45A PRO?...........http://atcloudspeakers.co.uk/profession ... cm45a-pro/

You miss out on a "SL" bass driver ( but....... being a centre.........you would be crossing over to a sub or 2 anyway)

But you DO get........THAT mid dome!!!!!......the new 'S' spec tweeter!!!..........adjustable input sensitivity.........bass trim......

Plus it can hit 112dB SPL (same as your 50's)..........vs the C3CA's 108dB.

Pricing would probably work out the same.........maybe even cheaper.

Obviously it would need a bit more space but may well match up better with your 50's.........(especially if they have/get the tweeter upgrade!!)

I reckon I would get one for sure if I could fit it in as it's clearly a step up from the C3CA and C5CA......... whilst being a LOT cheaper than a C6C!!!

But sadly........for now......I just can't accommodate it.

It is a good option. If I ever go for an active centre it will be when I move into bigger accommodation. Big size will present less of an issue then so might as well get that one. Just exploring the range at this stage.

I think the C5CA is based on scm20 sized cones the C4CA based on the smaller cones , like scm'7's

Nice idea but don't have the room or Monies ! (Uk pounds)

My 5.1 rears need to be wall mounted so going with the new HTS 11's.

Looking forward to the 45a as a centre and the new wall mounts this will mean the core 5.1 of my cinema
system will all be ATC for the first time ! ( the other rears and in celing atmos are other brands )

Return to Home cinema
